And we're not even ashamed of it. At. All. #sorrynotsorry
Yep that's right folks, "Naznin and Navshin, highlightin' it..... highlightin' it...."
Like in Pitch Perfect (the first one) where Bumper and Donald are saying "gettin' it, getting' it"
That movie never gets old.
Anyways, back to what this post is about: HIGHLIGHTERS. Or illuminators, whatever it is you choose to refer to them as. I don't judge. We're all friends here. Here are some of our faves...
My Thoughts/Descriptions/Ramblings on These Lovelies (keep scrolling to see these gems in all of their glory aka swatches) :
Mac Iridescent Powder in Belightful
An oldie but a goodie. Forgot we had this in our stash until recently. Described as a "light bronze with golden shimmer". It looks a tad bit pinky in the picture but it is not. It does however have a bit of a large shimmer (not a fine sheen) so you may want to be careful with this one. I love using it as a multipurpose product, specifically as an eyeshadow. Unfortunately, it is discontinued but, I hear that the Mac Mineralized Skin Finishes are ahead of the field. Haven't tried those yet but they are on the list. In the swatch below, you can somewhat see the large glitter flecks I am talking about. Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer
Oh My Goodness. This product. I have no words for it. As you can see, it has about five shades of champagne-y bronze-y goodness striped through it, so its very flattering, on I would say, a variety of skin tones. It's such a soft shimmer, you look like you're glowing when you put it on. It is a very finely milled powder that gives a very natural and glowy looking sheen that never looks overdone. Also, again a multi use product (eyeshadow) and the different stripes offer more of an eyeshadow palette option as well. Unfortunately, again, this beauty is discontinued (why, Dior, why?!!), but Dior has come out with another glorious highlighting product, the Diorskin Nude Shimmer Instant Illuminating Powder, which after few swatches in Sephora, I believe gives a much of a muchness effect. So that's pretty cool. To get the swatch below, I swiped my finger across the whole product. Of course, if you wanted a bronze-y look you would just stick to the right side or if you wanted a more champagne-y, the left side. Okay, maybe I do have words for it... lol.
Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Bronze
Like the Dior Amber Diamond, the different strips of color make it a customizable product. I love this thing. This is what got me onto the whole highlighting thing, because being an oily-skinned girl, I was afraid of them. But this little stunner, is not overwhelming at all. Very easy to use and its kind of hard to overdo it with this one. As all highlighters, I like to use this one as eyeshadow as well. Hey if you can get away with killing two birds with one stone, why not? Also, they come in a variety of different shades, and Bobbi Brown comes out with limited edition Shimmer Bricks too, so everyone's bound to find a Shimmer Brick of their preference. As with the Dior Amber Diamond, I swiped my finger across the entire product to get the swatch below. Again, it's an awesome product for customization.
Maybelline Experwear Eyeshadow Single in Champagne Fizz
My wonderful drugstore option. Yes, it is an eyeshadow, and no, I don't use it as an eyeshadow, well not an all over eyeshadow. I choose to use it as an inner corner and under the brow highlight. It's a light peachy color with lots of frost and shimmer. It gives you that subtle, effortless, dewy finish that doesn't scream "Look at me! I'm a disco ball!" I also prefer to use my fingers when applying this, just because. In the swatch, it looks almost white, which is why I prefer to use it it smaller, specific areas.
Mary Lou-Manizer by The Balm Cosmetics
After hearing the praises of the Mary Lou-Manizer all over the Internets, we decided to try it out. I had always thought it was a bit over the top and too shimmery for my liking until I actually used it. So why is this so highly spoken about, you ask? For starters, the texture is so smooth, like butter, and its ultra pigmented. A little of this stuff will go a long way. You can definitely overdo it with this one so be very careful and use a small brush for more precise and specific application rather than using a large fluffy brush and dusting it allover. It looks gold in the swatch, but it's a beauteous champagne-y, beige-y, golden-y color that I think would suit a bunch of different skin tones, and you can build it up to the intensity of your choosing. As usual, I also love to use this as an eyeshadow. I highly, highly, (like up in the air) highly recommend you to get this if you can get your hands on it.
